Stomy Business favored in Dowd Mile

The racing action at Fonner heats up Saturday with the $30,000 Dowd Mile, the main prep for the $100,000 Bosselman/Gus Fonner Stakes April 28.

Stormy Business, trained by Larry Donlin, is the expected favorite in the Dowd. He got his year off to a fast start March 24 with an impressive four-length win in the Tondi Stakes here. Ridden by R. D. Williams, Stormy Business took command through the far turn of the six-furlong Tondi and drew off over a muddy track, earning a 99 Beyer Speed Figure, by far the best of any horse at the meeting.

Kelly Von Hemel has nominated a strong duo in Trickyville Dew and Yourmoneysnogood, both based at Oaklawn Park. Fan favorite and defending champion Tonight Rainbow, trained by Boyd Caster, also is among the nominations, along with last year's Bosselman runner-up Motion Approved, trained by Debbie Dyer.

* Dennis Collins on April 5 became the fifth rider here to post a four-win day and followed up with a triple Saturday to stretch his lead in the rider standings to 41-34 over Tanner Riggs. Beth Butler also posted a triple Saturday and has moved to third with 29 wins.

* Don Frazier had a triple last Friday in his final weekend of riding here. He shifts his tack to Sunland Park this weekend.

* Trainer Milton Gaede sent out three winners on Saturday's card, including My Secret Star, who gained his third win of the meet in the $16,400 Baxter Stakes. It was the second stakes win of the meet for My Secret Star and for Butler, who was also aboard for a win in the Bachman Stakes on March 4.

o Blumin Attitude joined My Secret Star as the only three-time winners at the meet when he cruised to eight-length win over second-level allowance company Saturday. Trained by David Anderson, Blumin Attitude won his maiden by 13 1/4 lengths March 9 and returned against statebred allowance company March 25 to win by a nose.
