Stokosky beats Whata Brainstorm

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. - Stokosky bulled his way through horses near midstretch, then outgamed 5-2 favorite Whata Brainstorm to post a nose victory in Thursday's $46,000 allowance feature on the Gulfstream Park turf.

Pat Day aboard Stokosky had to take up sharply leaving the backstretch and Stokosky remained pinned in around the second turn. He eased out to split horses at midstretch and, after squeezing his way through a narrow opening, outfinished Whata Brainstorm in the final strides. Whata Brainstorm, making his first start in nearly a year, raced wide around both turns and held on determinedly to the end.

Mr. Livingston, who lost ground throughout, was up for third. Stokosky paid $11.60 and gave trainer Bill Mott a sweep of the afternoon's two grass races.

Trainer Jim Picou said he was very pleased with Whata Brainstorm's race and that if all goes well Whata Brainstorm will run next in the 1 1/2-mile, Grade 2 Pan American Handicap on March 23.
