The champion mare Stellar Wind will be cataloged to the Keeneland November breeding stock sale following a planned start in the Breeders’ Cup Distaff on Nov. 3 at Del Mar. The 5-year-old daughter of Curlin will be consigned by Lane’s End as agent for owner Hronis Racing. The mare is trained by John Sadler. “Stellar Wind is without a doubt one of the classiest horses I’ve ever been around and is everything you could want in a racehorse and a broodmare prospect,” Sadler said. “She has a high cruising speed, is sound, and has an incredible will to win. That was on display last year when she beat Beholder on the square not once but twice, in the Grade 1 Clement L. Hirsch and the Grade 1 Zenyatta Stakes.” The Keeneland sale will take place Nov. 7-18 in Lexington, Ky. As a certain Book 1 offering, she would go through the ring just days after her projected Breeders’ Cup start. Stellar Wind has won 10 of 15 starts over four seasons of racing for earnings of $2,233,200, highlighted by Grade 1 wins in the Apple Blossom Handicap, Santa Anita Oaks, Beholder Mile, Zenyatta Stakes, and two editions of the Clement L. Hirsch Stakes. She finished second in the 2015 Breeders’ Cup Distaff, which helped propel her to champion 3-year-old filly honors that season. Stellar Wind was cataloged to last year’s Keeneland November sale but was withdrawn and returned to training for another season. Bred in Virginia by Keswick Stables and Stonestreet Thoroughbred Holdings, Stellar Wind is the first foal out of the winning Malibu Moon mare Evening Star. She is from the family of Grade 1 winners Mor Spirit and Great Hunter. :: DRF BREEDING LIVE: Real-time coverage of breeding and sales
