Stealth Cat tops Czaria

Email

Filly and mare sprinters have the spotlight at Sunland Park, and a group of eight will contest the $50,000 Czaria Handicap. The six-furlong headliner is the 11th on a 12-race program.

Steve Asmussen-trained Stealth Cat will be the starting highweight in the Czaria at 123 pounds. The 5-year-old Magic Cat mare won the Santa Teresa in convincing fashion here Feb. 14. She has been favored in her last five races, including a 12 1/2-length romp in the Yellow Rose Stakes at Retama late last year. Alfredo Juarez will ride.

With an apparent overabundance of early speed in Saturday's headliner, Testify to Love could make a successful return to the stakes ranks. A winner from off the pace in impressive fashion against allowance foes in her last start, she would seem to benefit the most from a rapid early pace. Ricardo Jamie has the call at 118 pounds.

R Charlie's Angel, fresh off a near miss in the Harry Henson Memorial on March 29, is being wheeled back in two weeks by trainer Chris Hartman. R Charlie's Angel finished second to Stealth Cat in the Santa Teresa and continues to look for her first win since the 2008 edition of the Island Fashion Stakes here, when she was a 3-year-old. Quyet Bui rides at 120 pounds.
