Ashford Stud announced on Thursday that Grade 1 winner Stay Thirsty will stand his initial season at stud in 2013 for $17,500 when the foal stands and nurses. The 4-year-old Bernardini colt will retire to Ashford in Versailles, Ky., following his final career start in the Grade 1 Cigar Mile Handicap at Aqueduct on Nov. 24.
Mike Repole’s Stay Thirsty enters the Cigar Mile with a career record of four wins from 16 starts and $1,726,000 in earnings. He won three graded stakes as a 3-year-old, including the Travers Stakes, and finished second by a head to Flat Out in his most recent start, the Grade 1 Jockey Club Gold Cup Invitational Stakes on Sept. 29.
Stay Thirsty is out of the winning Storm Bird mare Marozia and is a half-brother to classic-placed Grade 3 winner Andromeda’s Hero and to stakes winner Superfly.
The remainder of Ashford Farm’s 2013 stallion roster and fees were released on Wednesday.
