Stay Thirsty, Gemologist seeks first stakes winners in Kentucky Juvenile


Two freshman sires will have a chance to notch their first stakes winners when Churchill Downs revives the $100,000 Kentucky Juvenile Stakes on Thursday.

Thirstforlife, by Ashford Stud’s multiple Grade 1 winner Stay Thirsty, will make his career debut in a stakes for trainer Mark Casse. The colt, a $240,000 Keeneland November weanling purchase, is out of graded stakes winner Promenade Girl, making him a half-brother to Grade 1 winner Cavorting. The latter is by Stay Thirsty’s sire Bernardini.

Bluegrass Gem finished second in his debut at Keeneland for trainer John Hancock. He is from the first crop of Grade 1 winner Gemologist, standing at WinStar Farm.
