Stay Close up in time at Pimlico

The streaking Stay Close won her first stakes in her first stakes try, running down the pacesetting Midwatch in deep stretch to take the $95,000 Henry Clark by 1 1/2 lengths on Saturday at Pimlico.

Bet from 4-1 on the morning-line to 7-5, Stay Close hugged the rail under Oliver Castillo until turning for home. She then tipped out and took after Midwatch, drew even about 12 jumps from home, and pulled away.

Stay Close was timed in 1:37.36 over good turf and paid $4.80.

It was her fourth win in her last five starts, all on turf.

Stay Close, 5, is trained by Michael Zwiesler and owned by William Farish.

* The $60,400 Xtra Heat for 3-year-old fillies wasn't a walkover, but the four-horse, 5 1/2-furlong sprint might as well have been. Your Flame in Me, the 1-5 favorite, sped to the lead and stayed there, crushing runner-up Paying Off by nine lengths.

Earlybird Road was another half-length back in third, and Rekindling Faith also ran. Morning-line second choice Changeisgonnacome and Luna Sera were scratched.

Ridden by Jose Caraballo for trainer Michael Trombetta and owner Robert Goldsmith, Your Flame in Me was timed in 1:04.75 and paid $2.40.
