Statebred 3-year-olds in spotlight

Nebraska-bred 3-year-olds will be the center of attention in two divisions of the $25,000 Fonner Park Special at six furlongs.

Reach One More heads a field of seven colts and geldings as he seeks his third stakes victory. Trained by David Anderson, Reach One More won his maiden last summer in the State Fair Futurity at Lincoln while making his career debut. He was never a factor in his 2009 debut in the half-mile Bachman Stakes, but rebounded to take the Baxter Stakes locally on March 28 going six furlongs.

From the Ashes, an impressive two-time winner at the meet, may be Reach One More's top challenger. Also trained by Anderson, From the Ashes won his maiden by a widening 5 1/2 lengths on Feb. 28, then won an entry-level allowance March 29.

In the fillies division, Apple Crumble may rate a slight edge in the field of seven for trainer Jason Wise. Apple Crumble won her maiden March 13 after a pair of second-place finishes. She then moved to entry-level allowance company for her most recent start on April 9 and was again second after leading to midstretch. The return to statebred company should suit her nicely.

Ms. Bumper, trained by Larry Staroscik, overcame a rough start to rally from well back and win going away in her career debut March 27. She showed talent that day after being squeezed back at the start and should be moving strongly late in this race.
