Star Cat, Indiana freshman sire, represented by first winner

Well-bred Indiana stallion Star Cat was represented by his first winner when Purrpurrpurr took a 5 1/2-furlong maiden special weight event at Indiana Downs on Aug. 23.

The 2-year-old bay filly stalked the leader in second early before making her winning move in early stretch and coasting to a 3 3/4-length score. She covered the distance in 1:07.09 and improved greatly from her debut effort Aug. 9 at Indiana, where she finished eighth in a five-furlong maiden.

Purrpurrpurr is out of the winning Iroquois Park mare Ultimate Princess, who is a full sister to multiple stakes winner Ultimate Warrior. The filly was bred by Breakaway Farm in Dillsboro, Ind., which stands her sire.

Star Cat, an unraced 6-year-old son of legendary sire Storm Cat, has 12 juveniles in his first crop. He is out of champion Ashado, who earned nearly $4 million during a racing career that saw her capture seven Grade 1 stakes. She is also a full sister to Grade 1 winner Sunriver and Grade 3 winner Saint Stephen.
