Stamina test for Frolic's Dream

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. - She will have a new owner and a new trainer but it will be the same old Frolic's Dream, who is expected to add Sunday's Grade 2, $150,000 Davona Dale to her previous victory in the Grade 2 Forward Gal Stakes earlier in the Gulfstream Park meet.

Frolic's Dream was purchased privately by the Lael Stable and turned over to Barclay Tagg shortly after her convincing 2 1/2-length triumph over Renda in the seven-furlong Forward Gal. The victory was the fourth in five career starts for Frolic's Dream, a 3-year-old daughter of Smoke Glacken whose only loss was a head setback in the Grade 3 Old Hat here on Jan. 4.

The key question in the Davona Dale is whether Frolic's Dream can handle stretching out to a mile for the first time in her career.

"We want to see if she'll go a mile, and the best place to find that out is right here since she's already proven she likes this track," said Tagg.

He has named John Velazquez to replace Jermaine Bridgmohan, who had been aboard Frolic's Dream in all five of her previous starts.

Frolic's Dream will have her work cut out in the Davona Dale. The field is loaded with talented 3-year-old fillies, several of whom are already proven at a mile and beyond.

Renda should relish the added distance. A Calder-based filly, Renda won a pair of stakes around two turns at 2 before finishing 10th after stalking the pace in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf. She rallied from last following a slow start to make up seven lengths on Frolic's Dream through the final three furlongs of the Forward Gal.

Shared Account is undefeated in two starts, both victories coming at Laurel at 1 1/16 miles. Trainer Graham Motion brought Shared Account down to Palm Meadows from the Fair Hill Training Center earlier this month to get her acclimated to south Florida.

Justwhistledixie is another northern invader who has been getting accustomed to the Florida weather at Palm Meadows over the past several weeks. Justwhistledixie captured her last three starts, all at Aqueduct, including impressive tallies in the Love Affair and Ruthless stakes.

C. S. Silk was a disappointment in the Forward Gal, finishing a well-beaten fourth as the 9-5 second choice behind Frolic's Dream. She should improve with a race under her belt and the added distance.
