Stakes renamed for for Kruytbosch, Coady


PHOENIX – Turf Paradise unveiled its $2.1 million stakes schedule for the upcoming 2008-2009 meet, including two stakes renamed in honor of two members of its family who died recently.

Among the 41 stakes are races renamed in honor of track announcer Luke Kruytbosch and longtime track photographer Jack Coady Sr.

The $50,000 Luke Kruytbosch (formerly the Saguaro), will be run opening day, Oct. 3. It is for 3-year-olds at six furlongs. Kruytbosch, 47, was Turf Paradise’s announcer since 1993. He died July 14.

The $50,000 Jack Coady Stakes (formerly the Paradise Valley) will be run Nov. 15 and is for 3-year olds at one mile on the turf. Coady, who was Turf Paradise’s photographer since 1960, died Aug. 4 at 80.

A 156-day meet will run from Oct. 3 through May 3, 2009. Live racing will be conducted Friday through Tuesday with a post time of 12:30 p.m. Full-card simulcasting will be offered seven days a week.
