Stakes recaps


* Kid Grindstone overcame a muddy surface to win the $40,000 Minneapolis Stakes at Canterbury Park on the final day of racing of the 2006 race meeting. Sent off as the 6-5 choice in the field of seven, Kid Grindstone won by 1 1/2 lengths. Wayzata Bay rallied for second, edging Vazandar by a half-length.

Tens Holy Spirit ($4.80) won the $40,000 Shakopee Stakes, the day's co-feature. Tens Holy Spirit led at every call and won by a half-length. Dynabin made a late charge for second, 2 1/2 lengths clear of Glitter Star.

* Tak's Wish ($3.40) outclassed six other Illinois-bred 2-year-old fillies, winning the $40,800 All Sold Out Stakes by six lengths at Fairmount Park. Cloudy and Rain was second, 10 1/2 lengths clear of Fearless Morgan in third. Owned and trained by Dawn Martin, Tak's Wish was ridden by Argelio Velazquez and ran six furlongs in 1:13.20.

* Legacy Fighter, the weaker part of trainer Dan Coughlin's uncoupled entry with 3-2 favorite Hez Comin Thru, pulled off a $16.20 upset, rallying late to win the $15,650 Labor Day Stakes by a nose over Chasin The Wind at Columbus.
