Stakes for Churchill's September meet closely resemble 2013

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Churchill Downs on Tuesday released the stakes schedule for the second 12-day September meet in modern track history with minimal change from the 2013 inaugural.

The schedule is identical to last year, with only purses having been adjusted, amounting to a net decrease of $50,000 involving three races. One of those, the Homecoming Classic, had its purse dropped from $175,000 to $125,000.

The meet starts with a Friday night card highlighted by a pair of races for 2-year-olds, the $200,000 Pocahontas and $100,000 Iroquois. Both are Win and You’re In events toward the Breeders’ Cup and points events toward the Kentucky Oaks and Derby, respectively

Last year was the first for Churchill taking over what long had been traditional September dates for Turfway Park in northern Kentucky. The meet runs through Sept. 28 using four three-day weekends.
