St. Roch seeking third win


BOSSIER CITY, La. - St. Roch, stakes-placed earlier this year and also last season as a juvenile, returns to action in Friday's allowance feature at Louisiana Downs seeking his third career win. A field of seven will go seven furlongs in the nonwinners-of-two other-than affair on the main track, restricted to Louisiana-breds.

Idle since a fourth-place finish in the Fair Grounds Sales Stakes in late March, returns to the oval that produced his maiden score last fall. A son of Leestown trained by Harry Hahn, St. Roch also lit the board on two other occasions here last season. He has been training well for his return and will be ridden on Friday by Jerri Nichols.

, a convincing winner in his last out here last month, appears favorably spotted to utilize his high turn of early foot, as he did in his last start. He should prove to be the quickest of the group once again, and regular rider Luis Quinonez exploited a similar situation for a victory last time. Runners Name will be making his third start of the year and will likely garner more respect on the tote board than the 12-1 he went off at last time.

will be going for his third win in a row after staging a solid rally against fellow entry-level allowance foes at Evangeline Downs in his last start, which came in April. A Pulling Punches gelding, he will be making his first local start for trainer Sam Breaux but has run well fresh previously and has not missed hitting the board this year. Guy Smith will handle the riding chores.

Training powerhouse Steve Asmussen will send out Surgeon of Choice in Friday's headliner off an unplaced effort in the Arcadia Stakes on June 5. Surgeon of Choice has squared off against stakes types in three of his last four starts and should find Friday's foes easier. Carlos Gonzalez has been given the call.

I Nv Slew is seeking to get back into the win column after wining back-to-back races earlier in the year. A gelded son of Slew the Surgeon, I Nv Slew exits an improving third-place finish against $30,000 claiming company after also competing in the Arcadia Stakes. He was victorious in the allowance ranks in early May and will be reunited with jockey Jose Riquelme on Friday.
