Sprint: Shake You Down clearly the best

Shake You Down, trained by Scott Lake, powers his way to a three-length victory as the odds-on favorite in the $300,000 Sunshine Millions Sprint on Saturday at Gulfstream Park.

Give the best horse in the race a perfect trip and the results will usually be the kind of one-sided victory Shake You Down recorded over six overmatched rivals in the $300,000 .

Shake You Down, one of the premier sprinters in the country last season, tracked the pace of longshot Love My Mountain, opened an easy lead around the turn, then coasted to a three-length victory over California invader Green Team in the six-furlong Sunshine Sprint. Valid Video, the only Grade 1 winner in the field, raced wide and finished third, a neck behind Green Team.

Shake You Down, a Florida-bred son of Montbrook owned by Robert L. Cole Jr. and trained by Scott Lake, paid $3.20 as the odds-on favorite. Regular rider Mike Luzzi rode Shake You Down, who completed the distance in 1:09.18 over a fast track.

"I couldn't have written a better script," said Lake. "We thought the one-horse [Love My Mountain] would go to the lead, so I told Luz [jockey Mike Luzzi] just to track him and let him get to the front on his own.

"This horse tends to loaf a little on the lead and not exert himself if he doesn't have to," Lake said. "Mike said he had a lot left at the end."

Lake said he was uncertain what would be next for Shake You Down, although he ruled out Dubai as a possibility.

"He's a bad bleeder, so I don't want to risk sending him over there," Lake said. "We have a lot of options available and plenty of time to make a decision where to send him next."
