Red Warrior pulled an upset in the $300,000 , a race marred by the breakdown of pacesetter Green Team.

Green Team, a multiple stakes winner and the 9-2 third choice, was pulled up just before the quarter pole while leading. A 6-year-old California-bred, Green Team fractured sesamoids in his right foreleg.

Red Warrior ($97), last early in the field of 11, rallied wide through the stretch to win his first stakes. Ridden by Garrett Gomez for trainer Juan Garcia, he finished six furlongs in 1:08.84. Full Moon Madness, in front of only Red Warrior on the backstretch, finished second after leading in the final sixteenth. Areyoutalkintome, the 2-1 favorite, was third, giving California-breds a sweep of the first three positions.

Green Team led by a half-length over Revello through an opening quarter-mile in 20.97 seconds. Revello inherited the lead at the quarter pole, but quickly faded. Most of the field was able to negotiate past the stricken Green Team without incident, but Bourbon n Blues and My Cousin Matt were forced to alter course to avoid colliding with Green Team. Red Warrior was well off the rail and away from the trouble.

Bang, a 44-1 shot, was pulled up on the final turn and was reported to have bled, according to track stewards.
