Spring Cat wires Emerald Necklace

Spring Cat lived up to her advance billing when she made the lead soon after the start and went on to a 3 1/4-length win over five 2-year-old Ohio-bred rival fillies in the $35,000, six-furlong Emerald Necklace stakes at Thistledown on Saturday. Switcheroo chased the winner all the way and was clearly second best, finishing some 6 1/2 lengths in front of Above All Others.

Spring Cat ($2.40), trained by Joseph Martin, recorded her third consecutive win and back-to-back stakes victories. Under Huber Villa Gomez, she ran the six furlongs in 1:11.98 over the fast racing strip.

* Shot Gun Favorite ($11.20), trained by Ken McPeek, overcame a wide trip and wore down Leaseholders Dream through the final furlong to score a neck victory in Friday's $75,000 Prairie Meadows Oaks for 3-year-old fillies.
