Spellbinder retired to stud

EmailGrade 2 winner Spellbinder has retired from racing and will join the Stonewall Stallions roster in 2008. The 6-year-old Tale of the Cat horse will stand for $5,000 at the Midway, Ky., farm.

Spellbinder, winner of the Grade 2 San Antonio and Grade 3 Berkeley handicaps in 2006, last ran in a Sept. 6 allowance race over 1 1/16 miles at Presque Isle Downs, finishing third. That wrapped up his racing career with 6 victories from 29 starts. He also finished second three times and third six times, bringing his total earnings to $499,057. In addition to his two graded stakes wins, Spellbinder also placed in five other stakes.

Spellbinder is out of the winning mare Thorough Fair, by Quiet American. He is a half-brother to Grade 1 winner Whywhywhy.
