Speedster C D Ruckus eyes repeat

Email

CALGARY, Alberta - C D Ruckus is the one to catch in Friday's featured seventh race, for $20,000 claimers. The six-furlong dash drew a field of seven.

In his latest effort, the Ron Grieves-trained C D Ruckus overcame the outside post in a field of nine to post a half-length victory in 1:11 for six furlongs under Real Simard, who retains the call. C D Ruckus drew post 5 for this sprint, which offers a purse of $15,100.

Old Victory, a winner of three races at this meet, should be in position to make the first run at C D Ruckus. Old Victory was claimed for $15,000 out of a win on May 21 and will be saddled by Janet Wig.

In that last race, Old Victory ran just off the pacesetting filly Grovenor early and rallied on the final turn. Perry Winters retains the mount Old Victory, who breaks from post 1.

Cadillac Sam is a hard-luck horse who has run four strong races at the meet without a victory. Stephan Heiler rides Friday.

Cadillac Sam has run wide in his races this meet. He finished just a half-length back of C D Ruckus last time following a three-wide trip.

Turbulence made a good run at 16-1 in his seasonal bow, finishing second behind C D Ruckus

May 23. He is eligible to improve off the effort. He will be ridden by Richard Hamel, the leader here heading into the final two weekends of the meeting

* Hamel also will ride favorite Fancy As in the $100,000 Alberta Derby on Saturday. Trainer Red Smith, on course to capture the training title, will saddle Fancy As.
