Speechifying honored in Pennsylvania

Speechifying, a 5-year-old mare owned by Indian Mills Stock Farm and trained by Phil Aristone, was named Pennsylvania's horse of the year Wednesday night during the annual awards program of the Pennsylvania Thoroughbred Horsemen's Association, comprising horsemen who race at Philadelphia Park.

During her 4-year-old campaign in 2007, which began with her running for a $15,000 claiming price against maidens, Speechifying won six races and $291,301, highlighted by a victory in the $250,000 My Juliet Stakes. She was also named top older female and top claiming horse.

Victory Thoroughbreds and trainer Ramon Preciado received two awards for top 3-year-old male with Cherokee Country, who was also selected as the claim of the year after rising from the $12,500 ranks to win three minor stakes in 2007.

Also honored were: Double Down Vinman, top 2-year-old male; Ask the Moon, 2-year-old filly; Who's Happy, 3-year-old filly, and Banjo Picker, older male.
