Special Eclipse for Kentucky Horse Park

The Kentucky Horse Park near Lexington, Ky., has been selected to receive a Special Eclipse Award for its role in promoting and showcasing equine breeds, the National Thoroughbred Racing Association announced on Wednesday.

Founded in 1978, the Kentucky Horse Park was visited by approximately 90,000 people last year, according to the NTRA, and is the home of 53 breeds of horses. The complex hosts equine competitions, including the international Rolex Kentucky Three-Day Event, and includes a museum dedicated to the horse and its role in human history.

The Horse Park has been selected to be the host of the 2010 World Equestrian Games, an event that has never been held in North America.
