Sparkles' Girl, 5, wins the Classy 'N Smart Stakes at Woodbine on Sunday.

ETOBICOKE, Ontario — Sparkles’ Girl won her second stakes at 8-1 under Emma-Jayne Wilson in Sunday’s $125,400 Classy ‘N Smart at Woodbine.

On a brutally hot afternoon, Sparkles’ Girl tracked the leading Generous Touch through moderate fractions in the 1 1/16-mile route. She took control early in the stretch, and then held off a wide-closing Trini Brewnette to win by a head, in a final time of 1:44.42.

The favored Sweater Weather rallied on the far outside from last to lose third by a head to Internal Bourbon in the nine-horse field of Ontario-sired distaffers.

“If she gets a nice stalking trip, with a little pace in front of her, she settles really nice, and that’s what happened,” Wilson said. “(Gary Boulanger on Generous Touch) set comfortable fractions. He’s pretty potent on the front end, so I didn’t want to let him get too far away from us. Sweater Weather got the jump on us last time, and I didn’t want to let her get the jump on us again. I bided my time, and made sure I pulled the trigger at the right time. It worked out really well.”

Sparkles’ Girl collected $75,000 for C.E.C. Farm and trainer John Charalambous. The 4-year-old daughter of Society’s Chairman won her first stakes two years ago in the Ontario Lassie.
