Spa Babies for Thursday

Email

Welcome to Spa Babies! Saratoga is famous for its top-notch racing for two-year-olds so I'll break down the numbers for every juvenile maiden race at the meet in the hope of finding a winner, and perhaps, a future star.

Wednesday's results 2-1-2, +($13.40)

Meet results 57-7-31, -($10.50)

Thursday, August 31, 2006

Race 3
6 Furlongs
Allowance ('n1x')
2-year-old fillies
Purse $50,000

Analysis:

THIS JUST IN, a daughter of Grade 1 winner Glitter Woman, finally lived up to her promise with a big-figure maiden win on August 17. The waters will get deeper for her on Thursday as she tackles winners for the first time, but she draws comfortably outside the other speeds, and may utilize stalk-and-pounce tactics under the patient Leparoux. FIVE STAR DAYDREAM overcame a bumbling beginning to wire maidens as the heavy favorite here three weeks ago. She'll be under the gun from the inside post, however, and there is lots of speed to her outside. CHEROKEE SHEIK didn't have an easy break in her maiden win, but she showed enough agility to get to the front over a speed-favoring track. She's one of many talented juveniles trained by Billy Mott. EXPERTISE has been banging heads with better, and should appreciate the drop in class. She's one to use in exotics at a price. KAUAI CALLS, a seven-figure yearling purchase, looked good in maiden win, and seems to have a good deal of potential. May end up getting the proper race flow, and she's the only runner in the field with a win at this distance. LITTLE MISS MARTHA and LUXURY CLASS both must prove that they can hang on this circuit. The latter seems to have some speed.

The Bet: This Just In (Win at 2-1 or more, Win and Place if 4-1 or more)

14. Hidden Grove (Main Track Only)

Analysis:

WHOLE EMBLEM whistled five furlongs in 59 flat over the lawn in preparation for this, and barn has sent out juvenile firsters Granny Franny and Solvent to runner-up efforts on the grass at this meet. Hails from a classy family, and seems well-meant. FERNALD goes out for underrated trainer, and half-sister Aud loved the turf. Shows some intriguing workouts, and may offer some value. BLOCK adds Lasix after well-bet debut. She rallied well in the lane that day, and should benefit from that experience. MOSTBEAUTIFULSTORM may attempt a theft stretching out off two pace-pressing sprint efforts. She has some turf blood. SAINT PEGASUS, MAMA BEAR, and WAY SASSY are all eligible to improve off their debuts, but are stuck on the also-eligible list.

The Bet: Whole Emblem (Win at 2-1 or more, Win and Place at 4-1 or more)
