Spa Babies for Friday

Email

Welcome to Spa Babies! Saratoga is famous for its top-notch racing for two-year-olds so I'll break down the numbers for every juvenile maiden race at the meet in the hope of finding a winner, and perhaps, a future star.

If a selection goes off between 2-1 and 7-2 odds, he will be bet to Win. If the selection goes off at 4-1 or longer, he will be bet to Win and Place. Anything under 2-1 will not be played.

ANALYSIS:

FAHRENHEIT WILD made solid wide move over gold-rail track in career debut, and should greatly benefit from the valuable learning experience. Draws outside, and should steer clear of traffic trouble. Entrymates HUGE CITY and BELLBOTTOM JOHNNY both have precocious pedigree, and trainer Linda Rice has had a fantastic meet. Neither would be a surprise. LIGHTS OF BROADWAY couldn't take advantage of a speed-favoring track in debut, but now goes turf to dirt. Romans has struggled at this meet. QUICK AND EASY worked swiftly before selling for six figures at Ocala. Bred to sprint top and bottom.

Analysis:

John Kimmel sent out GRAND MERGER's half-brother to win first-out on the Saratoga lawn under Prado in 2005, and the workouts indicate that this filly will be ready to rumble on Friday. Todd Pletcher always has to be respected with his babies, and his entry of STORM DIXIE and JOCASSEE figure to take play. The former has a strong turf pedigree, and shows some good works at Monmouth while Jocassee was a beaten favorite in her debut over a muddy track. JACLYN JOY is eligible to show improved speed stretching out after three sprint tries. SWEET VALENTINE had some trouble in debut, but has turf pedigree, and should appreciate the added distance. SIEMPRE VERDE ran a sneaky-good race in debut, but must draw in from the also-eligible list. GEORGIA'S WAY goes out for underrated debut barn, and several of her works show promise. MY DEAR ANNIE goes two sprints to a route for barn that does very well with turf runners. ALCHERA adds Lasix, and turf sire and barn indicate that she'll improve on the lawn.

The Bet: Grand Merger
