Analysis:
DEVIL MAY CARE is a half-sister to Regal Ransom, a 93 Beyer juvenile debut winner last summer at the Spa for Kiaran McLaughlin.  Regal Ransom would winter in Dubai, win the UAE Derby, and finish eighth in the Kentucky Derby before being sidelined.  Todd Pletcher and John Velazquez are at the controls of this $400,000 juvenile buyback, and the bullet gate work on August 16 looks pretty sharp.
MUCH REJOICING is mostly turf-bred as her dam won the Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Turf in 1999 with a 105 Beyer.  Much Rejoicing's older half-sister, Shine Softly, won off a year layoff yesterday afternoon, but Jimmy Toner has a poor record with first-time starters.  Much Rejoicing may do better with more distance, and perhaps a surface switch to grass.
VAPORIZE made up late ground to finish second in her career debut, but her late kick may be more of an illusion than it appears.  The longshot winner that day, Encore Saritta, took a bad step while well clear in late stretch, and shortened stride badly.  Gary Contessa has been sending out live juvenile runners at this meet, and Vaporize should benefit from the debut experience.
CAUTIONARY TALE is a half-sister to Soul Warrior, the conqueror of both Mine That Bird and Big Drama in this year's West Virginia Derby.  She is bred for speed on both sides of the pedigree, and her trainer, Ken McPeek does well with young horses.
THE MAILET makes debut for cold barn, and may do better with a race or two under her girth.  GOLDEN BIRDIE saved ground to no avail in her debut, and needs to improve for Mr. Lukas.  KATY NOW adds Lasix for second lifetime start.  That's a big angle in maiden races, Ian Wilkes does better second-out than with firsters, and this daughter of Tiznow isn't the worst stab in the world.  RUMPUS ROOM adds blinkers after a wide debut run in the slop.  SHERYL'S MELODY's workmate ran poorly here the other day.  CAST CALL cost $1,000,000 as a yearling, is bred to the nines, and goes out for solid connections, but she must overcome a sometimes-intimidating inside post position.  She obviously would be no surprise.

Selections:
1.  Devil May Care  2.  Much Rejoicing  3.  Vaporize

Analysis:
NO TRUTH TOLD rallied at 50-1 odds over speed-favoring track to pick up the place here on Opening Day, and the son of Tale of the Cat earned a competitive Beyer Speed Figure of 77.  He finished ahead of a pair of next-out Spa winners (D'bigcat, 75 Beyer for $50,000; Wildcat Nation, 70 Beyer in maiden special weight), and it's nice to see the pair of five-furlong drills on the recent work tab.  He gets a tepid nod in a tough, tough maiden race.
KETTLE RIVER shows an encouraging workout on August 19 over the synthetic track at Greentree, and the January foal may have a slight maturity edge over some of the competition.  Eoin Harty historically does well with young horses at this meet, but the sire has struggled with debut runners in 2009.
THREE DAY RUSH was outrallied by 25-1 shot Kratisto at Delaware, but that foe returned to finish second in a $100,000 stakes race at Charles Town.  Despite dropping the photo, Three Day Rush did better than three next-out winners in that debut run including Winslow Homer, an 84 Beyer-winner at Saratoga.  Ronny Werner does very well with second-out runners, and his charge deserves a long look at what should be a solid price.
KAJIWARA goes out for top connections.  He worked a quarter-mile in under 21 seconds earlier this year so expect him to be pretty quick out of the gate.
MOONLARK sold for $625,000 last year, and Mr. Lukas is having a nice meet.  The workouts fail to excite, however.  OUR DARK KNIGHT and EL PRIMERO both sold for six figures.  The former's trainer has struggled with his juvenile runners at this meet while El Primero may do better with a race under the belt.  BULLDOGGER makes career debut for Bob Baffert, and the Hall of Fame trainer's numbers with juvenile debut runners at the Spa is phenomenal.  This Dixie Union colt was forced to miss a race earlier in the meet due to sickness, and is now stuck down on the rail.  ALEX LE GREAT shows a 19-day gap between his last two published drills.  MY PIANO MAN doesn't show a workout in the last 20 days.  BUDDY'S SAINT is missing 15 days between his last two moves.

Selections:  1.  No Truth Told  2.  Kettle River  3.  Three Day Rush

The Play:
No Truth Told to Win and Place at 4-1 odds or greater
