NOTABLE WORKOUT INFORMATION:  May 27 workout matches barn's juvenile ASPIRE (finished first in career debut at Saratoga on August 12 with 84 Beyer Speed Figure)

Analysis:  The same owner-trainer-jockey trifecta that scored with meet juvenile debut winner Aspire is back again with CALLIDE VALLEY, a $140,000 weanling bred both sides for speed.  Aspire took a lot of tote action so expect good things if Callide Valley opens up well beneath his 10-1 morning line odds.
CHIEF COUNSEL sold for $230,000 earlier this year after working a quarter-mile in under 21 seconds.  His sire, Officer, is an excellent source of debut winners, and the dam was a stakes-winner at seven furlongs.  Expect good gate zip from this colt.
BROTHER BIRD should get lots of sentimental play as he's a half-brother to the immensely popular Kentucky Derby winner Mine That Bird.  Brother Bird goes out for top debut trainer Todd Pletcher, and can't be counted out.  His sire, Yonaguska, won the Grade 1 Hopeful here at two, and is having a good year with his firsters.
WEST HAMPTON shows some quick works for Mr. Lukas, and the dam is a half-sister to the classy Lil's Lad.
BULLDOGGER makes debut for Hall of Fame trainer Bob Baffert, and Baffert is 4 for his last 6 with juvenile debut performers at the Spa.  This colt lures John Velazquez away from his main trainer, Todd Pletcher, and can't be dismissed.  WORLD RECORD has been in steady training since late May for Shug McGaughey, and boasts a classic Phipps pedigree.  Perhaps he'll do better with a bit more ground to work with.  LISTON makes debut for powerful connections, but the McLaughlin-trained juveniles have underperformed thus far at the meet.  RUN TO GRAND AVE. is stuck down in a tough inside post position.  MY PIANO MAN shows an 18-day gap in the tab, and may want more ground and perhaps grass.

Selections:  1.  Callide Valley  2.  Chief Counsel  3.  Brother Bird

The Play:  Callide Valley to Win and Place at 5-1 odds or higher

Meet record based on starts, wins, top pick (after scratches) in the money, and profit/loss of that day's play ($2 wager): 26-4-12 (-$4.10)
