DEL MAR, Calif. – The Thanksgiving holiday extended into Friday for one pick six player, who gleaned $207,461.80 for being the sole winning ticket on the Del Mar pick six, taking down both the general pool and the single-ticket jackpot.

The single-ticket jackpot had not been hit for several days, so there was a carryover in that pool of $116,090 entering Friday’s eight-race card. There was $140,847 in fresh money bet on Friday, which added nearly $16,200 to the jackpot pool, and put $75,245 into the general pool.

When Alsatian – one of just two horses covered in the final leg -- captured the eighth race, the ticket winner took down both the general pool and the $132,216 that was now in the jackpot pool, for a payoff of $207,461.80.

The winning ticket cost $320 and was purchased at an off-track-wagering site in San Jose, Calif., according to Del Mar’s mutuels department.

Under the new rules this meet in the pick six, 70 percent of the pool goes to those with six winners. If no one hits six, that money is carried over in the general pool.

Of the remaining 30 percent, half – 15 percent – is reserved for a single winning ticket, and is referred to as the jackpot carryover.

The other 15 percent goes to those with 5 of 6 when six winners are hit, or those with the most winners when no one has six. Those with 5 of 6 on Friday got $1,240.20.
