Solis, Baffert top Hollywood

INGLEWOOD, Calif. - Jockey Alex Solis and trainer Bob Baffert won titles at the Hollywood Park autumn meeting, which ended on Monday. Both Solis and Baffert clinched titles over the weekend.

Through Sunday, Solis had 29 winners, six more than Kent Desormeaux. Laffit Pincay Jr., who won three riding titles in Southern California earlier this year, was third with 22 winners.

Pincay, 54, contended for the Hollywood Park title until last week when he was forced to miss three days after losing an appeal of a riding suspension for a disqualification at Del Mar in July.

Pincay beat Solis by two winners during the Oak Tree at Santa Anita meeting earlier this fall, a reverse of the Del Mar meeting, when Solis won by two over Pincay.

Baffert set a record for most wins at the fall meeting. Through Sunday, he had 21 victories, but had a chance to add to that total with two starters on Monday. The previous mark of 19 winners was set by Bob Hess Jr. in 1992.

Bobby Frankel had seven winners at the fall meeting, and six of them came in stakes, equaling Charlie Whittingham's 1984 record. On Nov. 25, Frankel achieved a Grade 1 stakes double, winning the Matriarch Stakes with Starine and the Hollywood Derby with Denon. Baffert had four stakes wins, including Habibti in Sunday's Grade 1 Starlet Stakes.
