So Lucky much the best in WTBOA Lads

So Lucky remained undefeated in three starts with a convincing win in the $45,000 Washington Thoroughbred Breeders and Owners Association Lads at Emerald Downs on Sunday. He paid $2.60 for his 5 1/4-length romp over Distortedatthebar.

Ridden by Rocco Bowen, So Lucky took control soon after the start of the six-furlong dash for 2-year-olds and was never threatened by the runner-up. He clicked off interior fractions of 21.76 and 44.14 seconds,  held a four-length lead at the top of the stretch, and drew off while being ridden out. Mixo finished third.

“I kept after him a little,” said Bowen, who never used his whip. “When babies are that far in front you have to let them know they are still in a race.”

So Lucky is trained by Howard Belvoir.

“It is a horse race but I was pretty sure he was going to win today,” said Belvoir. “He’s a real nice horse and has been training great. We are so lucky to have him.”

The final time was 1:08.50.

So Lucky is owned by Pegasus Too and Rising Star Stable.

Blazeinbeauty paid $3.80 for her 1 1/4-length win over Getting Joellenned in the $49,500 Barbara Shinpoch for 2-year-old fillies.

With Isaias aboard, Blazeinbeauty got bumped around at the start of the six-furlong sprint but finished full of run in the stretch to wear down Getting Joellenned, who had opened up a three-length advantage at the eighth pole. Afleet Hope rallied to finish third.

It was the first win for Blazeinbeauty, who is trained by Frank Lucarelli and owned by Darrin Paul.

The final time was 1:10.16.
