Snow forces Eastern tracks to cancel


Racing was canceled at several Eastern tracks Saturday as the first major storm of the winter made its way northward along the coast. In addition to high winds, snow accumulations were expected to reach as much as two feet in Maryland and one foot in New York City.

Laurel Race Course on Friday canceled its Saturday card when the path and intensity of the storm were confirmed. Saturday's card was to have been Laurel's last racing program of the year and included the $50,000 Maryland Juvenile Filly Championship. The race has been rescheduled for Jan. 1 and has been renamed the Maryland Filly Championship since it will no longer be for


The other Saturday cancellations included Philadelphia Park, Penn National, and Charles Town.
