Snow Big Deal upsets All American Derby


Snow Big Deal lowered the 440-yard track record at Ruidoso Downs on Sunday with an upset win in the $699,017 All American Derby for Quarter Horses.

Winning his first stakes, Snow Big Deal ($53) led throughout, winning by a half-length over 22-1 Talk About Me Oh My. Andthebeatgoeson finished third in the field of 10. Meteoric, the 4-5 favorite, was soundly bumped shortly after the start and never threatened Snow Big Deal.

Snow Big Deal had a trouble free trip under jockey Joe Badilla, Jr. Breaking from post 6, Snow Big Deal led narrowly for the first 350 yards and pulled away late.

Trained by Sleepy Gilbreath for IV in Texas Racing, Snow Big Deal has won 4 of 11 starts and $383,299. Last fall, he finished sixth in the prestigious Dash for Cash Futurity at Lone Star Park. The All American Derby was his first major stakes appearance of 2003.
