Snazzyboy upsets sales stakes


Snazzyboy ($29.70) upset heavily favored Mr. Shadar in the $49,000 Three Year Old Sales Stakes for 3-year-old colts and geldings at Northlands Park on Friday night.

With Rickey Walcott in the irons, Snazzyboy dueled with Wired Two Twenty for the first half-mile. After disposing of Wired Two Twenty and leading briefly, he was tackled my Mr. Shadar on the stretch turn. They battled it out until Snazzboy started to pull away inside the sixteenth pole to win by three-quarters of a length.

Final time for the one-mile race over a track rated fast was 1:40.20. Despite sub-freezing temperatures, the track maintenance crew managed to keep the track from freezing.

Snazzyboy is trained by Robert MacDonald. He earned $30,000 for owners R and M Stable.

In the fillies division, 4-5 favorite Eye Scarey went right to the front with Shannon Beauregard aboard and never looked back while posting a 5 1/2-length win over Hansel's Lady. Final time for the mile was 1:40.60.

Trained by Ron Grieves, Eye Scarey earned $31,000 for owners Central City Stable and Bar None Ranches.
