OZONE PARK, N.Y. - Smokey Glacken outsprinted several rivals to make the early lead, then carried her speed all the way to win Sunday's Grade 3, $112,200 by 3 3/4 lengths at Aqueduct.

Longshot Baldomera rallied from well off the pace to get second, a half-length in front of Stoic. Forest Music, the even-money favorite, tired to fifth after chasing the hot early pace.

The victory was the third in four career starts for Smokey Glacken, a half-sister to 1997 champion sprinter, Smoke Glacken.

Jimmy Jerkens, Smokey Glacken's trainer, felt that inside speed was doing well on Sunday and conveyed that message to jockey Jose Santos in the paddock. After Smokey Glacken bobbled at the break, Santos gunned her to the front and they made a half-length lead after running an opening quarter-mile in 21.79 seconds. Smokey Glacken ($7) opened a 1 1/2-length lead after running four furlongs in 45.04 seconds and was never threatened. She covered six furlongs in 1:11.18.

Jerkens said Smokey Glacken would most likely make her next start at Gulfstream Park. An early-season target could be the $100,000 Old Hat Stakes on Feb. 14.
