Smitty's Sunshine wins Pent Up Kiss

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Smitty's Sunshine, ridden by Robby Albarado, turned back a racelong bid from favored Nicole's Dream when going on to victory Sunday in the $116,400 Pent Up Kiss at Churchill Downs.

As part of a three-way pace scramble in the five-furlong turf race, Smitty's Sunshine took sole command soon after the field of eight fillies and mares straightened for home, then had enough left to finish three-quarters of a length clear of a belated bid by Beautiful Bets. Nicole's Dream, who was making the 53rd and final start of her illustrious career, wound up just another neck back in third.

Smitty's Sunshine returned $16 as fifth choice after finishing in 57.94 seconds over a firm turf.

For Smitty's Sunshine, a 3-year-old Louisiana-bred filly by Seeking a Home, the Pent Up Kiss marked the first stakes win of her career, and her third victory from seven overall starts. She is owned by Roger G. Smith and is trained by Morris Nicks.

Nicole's Dream, who won 24 races, most of them for Dare to Dream Stable and trainer Larry Rivelli, earned $11,290 to end her career with $826,454.
