Sloppy track likely for second week of jackpot wager

The track was sloppy for the debut of the National Racing Club Sweepstakes Rainbow 6 Jackpot at Portland Meadows on Jan. 11, and with rain in the forecast for four consecutive days leading up to Tuesday’s card, the track figures to be sloppy again for the second week of the competition.

The new wager will be offered once a week for six consecutive weeks and covers the last six races on Tuesday’s card. If no unique winning ticket is sold, the pool builds, and there is a mandatory payout during the final week of the wager next month. The bet has a 10-cent base, and each ticket must total at least $1. The takeout rate is 22 percent, and the pool is guaranteed at $100,000.

The six races in Tuesday’s sequence all feature large fields of fillies and mares ages 4 and up going a quarter-mile for a $3,000 purse, with jockeys being randomly assigned mounts. Jockeys will be awarded points based on the performances of their mounts, and those with the most points at the end of the six-week contest will be eligible for bonuses.

The wager begins with Race 10 at 4:17 p.m. Pacific, and Who Dat Dini and Glorious Angel each will be looking to win a second straight race after scoring during the first week of the competition Jan. 11. Glorious Angel won her race by half a length in 23.25 seconds, while Who Dat Dini won by 1 1/2 lengths in 23.27.

In Race 11, Gamblin Miss, Cardinal N Gold, and Kameron’s Token all return after winning races during Week 1. Gamblin Miss scored by 1 1/2 lengths in 23 seconds flat, Cardinal N Gold won by 1 1/4 lengths in 23.17, and Kameron’s Token took her race by half a length in 22.97.

Richiesgirlcansing is the 4-1 morning-line favorite in Race 12 after showing some speed during a 2014 campaign in which she won two of 11 starts. She failed to hit the board in all four of her starts last year, however.

In Race 13, Lil Ms Wild Cat looks like a major player after finishing second to Kameron’s Token last week, while Elsie’s Princess returns after finishing second to Glorious Angel last week.

City Sensation likely will be a single on many tickets in Race 14 after romping by 3 3/4 lengths in 23.30 seconds last week, while That’s a Bingo is back after running second to Who Dat Dini last week.

Race 15 is the final leg of the sequence, and Space Heat should attract strong support after finishing second to City Sensation last week.
