Slight edge to sharp Scat's Princess

Scat's Princess headlines a well-balanced field of seven Nebraska-bred fillies and mares going six furlongs in the $25,000 Orphan Kist Stakes at Fonner Park.

Scat's Princess won the prep for this race on Feb. 22 and should be tight with the race under her belt. She will face several multiple stakes winners in this field, including Dazzling Seville, Deputy's Whirl, and Plaer's Trump.

Scat's Princess, trained by David Anderson, had three straight wins against $20,000 company last summer. A strong threat from just off the pace, she is teamed with leading rider Damon Leeds.

Plaer's Trump will make her seasonal debut for trainer Herb Riecken. She won the Falls Amiss Handicap at Horsemen's Park last summer and was stakes-placed several times, including runner-up in this race. Armando Martinez has the mount.

Deputy's Whirl, a 4-year-old trained by Bob Rising, rallied from off the pace while wide when third to Scat's Princess earlier this year. The experience should have her primed for a good effort here with apprentice Chris Fackler aboard.

Real Battleaxe, Dazzling Seville, and Gracie Jane would appear to be the pace of the race. Real Battleaxe faded to third after showing speed in the half-mile Bold Accent Stakes on opening weekend. Her front-running style could find her loose on the lead.
