Slight edge to Heresyasign in turf feature

Good current form is the rule in Friday night's second- level allowance feature at Evangeline Downs. Five of the eight runners entered in the 1 1/16-mile turf race were third or better in their most recent starts with the other three picking up small paychecks by finishing fourth or fifth.

The betting public may have a difficult time deciding on a favorite but may gravitate toward the Keith Bourgeois- trained Heresyasign. A 4-year-old Skip Away gelding, Heresyasign won under Friday's conditions here on July 24, posting an 82 Beyer Speed Figure. He posted the same figure in running third on the turf in a similar spot in early June.

Golden Slammer should appreciate the added distance of Friday's race after finding his best stride too late going 7 1/2 furlongs last time out. He won over the local turf course earlier this summer and is a four-time winner overall.

* Shane Sellers's comeback from retirement picked up some real steam last week. The rider, who returned to action early last month, had three wins apiece last Wednesday and Friday as well as a double on Saturday night. He has now won 30 of 120 races for an attractive win rate of 25 percent.
