Slickly wins but will skip Cup

Slickly scored his second consecutive victory in the Group 1 Premio Vittorio di Capua on Sunday in his first start since taking last year's running of the race at San Siro in Milan. The 6-year-old Slickly led throughout on heavy ground to defeat German invader Horeion Directa by 1 1/4 lengths, getting the mile in 1:42.30.

Godolphin has some options with Slickly, but he will not go in the Breeders' Cup Mile. At his best on soft ground, he could return to Italy for the 1 1/4-mile Premio Roma at the Capannelle on Nov. 17.

In the seven-furlong Group 1 Prix de la Foret at Longchamp, Dedication beat a stablemate from the Criquette Head-Maarek barn, Medecis, by a neck, but it is Medecis who will be pre-entered for the Breeders' Cup Mile. The best previous performance from Medecis came on May 12, when he was beaten a length in the French 2000 Guineas by recent Sahdwell Turf Mile winner Landseer.

In other Breeders' Cup news from Europe, trainer Luca Cumani said that Irish 1000 Guineas winner Gossamer will not run in Saturday's Challenge Stakes, but instead will head to Arlington Park for the Mile.
