Slewpast shipping in to win

AUBURN, Wash. - Canadian stakes winner Slewpast will ship from Hastings Park on Friday to take on five fillies and mares in Friday's Emerald Downs feature, a mile test to be run under $50,000 optional claiming conditions.

Slewpast, a 4-year-old daughter of Western Trick, was among the best in her division last season at Hastings, where she notched a stakes win at 6 1/2 furlongs and two more at 1 1/16 miles. Following her Hastings campaign, trainer Robbie Anderson took her to Northlands Park and she won a 6 1/2-furlong stakes.

Slewpast was winless through her first three starts at 4, but she returned from a layoff on Sept. 9 to win an open 6 1/2-furlong allowance at Hastings by two lengths. Trainer Sharon Ross will saddle Slewpast for Anderson on Friday, when she will be ridden by regular jockey Frank Fuentes.

Slewpast faces stiff opposition in the form of Gins Majesty. Gins Majesty, trained by Tim McCanna, upset stablemate Queenledo in last season's Kent Handicap here at 1 1/16 miles, then ran second to Queenledo in the $100,000 Washington Oaks before finishing fifth against the boys in the Emerald Derby. Gins Majesty won for the first time in seven starts this year in her most recent outing on Aug. 27, when she covered a mile in 1:35 to defeat $40,000 optional claimers. Kevin Krigger returns to ride.

Also a threat is Roanaway Bride, who ran second to divisional leader Queenledo in the 1 1/16-mile Belle Roberts Handicap Sept. 17.
