Slewpast eyes stakes No. 5


EDMONTON, Alberta - Vancouver invader Slewpast, with four stakes victories this season, is topweighted at 121 pounds as she takes on six other 3-year-old fillies in the Chariot Chaser here at Northlands Park Friday.

Trained by Robert Anderson, Slewpast was also a runner-up in a fifth Hastings stakes and drops back to 6 1/2 furlongs after three successive 1 1/16-mile outings.

Slewpast will be ridden by Francisco Fuentes and will concede two pounds each to Speedy Gone Sally, bidding for her third consecutive stakes win, and Nessarose, who is coming off back-to-back wins in a stakes and an allowance.

Greg Tracy, trainer of Nessarose, will saddle two other starters: Miss Venturous, Alberta's 2004 champion 2-year-old filly, and Honky Tonk Pat, whom he claimed for $75,000 in her last start at Hastings.

* In Monday's $75,000 Canadian Juvenile, Bell N' Gone won his second stakes, defeating Beau Run, his entrymate from Bar None Ranches, by a neck. Bell N' Gone ($3.80) was ridden by Real Simard.

* Trainer Ernie Keller sent out a trio that finished one-two-three as Kaylee's Magic suffered a stunning defeat in the $50,000 Freedom of the City for 2-year-old fillies here last Saturday,

Awesome Deal ($40.10), under Stephan Heiler, rallied for a neck victory over Hilltop Neddy (10-1). Mia Cat Dancer (20-1) grabbed the show money from Kaylee's Magic, who finished fourth at odds of 3-10.
