Sleepy Hollow: Sharp Humor hangs on

Sharp Humor turned back several challenges during a prolonged stretch drive and held on to win the $100,000 by a half-length over favored Parkhimonbroadway. Classic Pack was another length back in third.

The Sleepy Hollow is for 2-year-olds going one mile. Sharp Humor was on or near the lead throughout. He grabbed the lead after a half-mile, disposed of pacesetter Classic Park, then held off Parkhimonbroadway while braving a stiff headwind.

Sharp Humor ($10.60) was timed in 1:39.55 on the sloppy track after interior fractions of 45.58 seconds for a half-mile and 1:10.91 for six furlongs. Edgar Prado rode Sharp Humor, a son of Distorted Humor, for trainer Dale Romans.

"He's a game horse. He just kept going," Romans said. "I think he's good enough to try with open company."

Sharp Humor is owned by Edwin and Mara Edelberg and his breeder, Patricia Purdy, who race as Purdedel Stable. He has won three times in five starts, including a victory in the Bertram Bongard here on Sept. 25.
