Skylighter pays $30 in Indiana Oaks

Skylighter lit up the tote board after drawing off in late stretch to win the Grade 2, $400,000 Indiana Oaks at Hoosier Park on Friday evening. Trained by Robert Frankel, Skylighter has won her last three races dating back to her maiden victory May 11 at Belmont Park.

The 4-year-old had a ground-saving trip early under jockey Eddie Castro, while stalking the pacesetters in the 10-horse field. Castro took Skylighter outside on the far turn and rallied into the stretch, drawing off late to win by three widening lengths.

The Indiana Oaks was her first test in stakes company. Shining Image was second and Dubai Majesty was third, 1 1/4 lengths farther back. The slight favorite, Sky Mom, made a move on the second turn before giving way in the stretch.  T

Skylighter returned $30 to win and ran the 1 1/16-mile Oaks in 1:44.80 over a fast track.

* Unbridled Monica upset a field of 12 Indiana-bred fillies and mares in the $100,000 Richmond. Jockey Tommy Pompell kept Unbrideled Monica on the outside just behind the early speed before rallying into the stretch to draw clear late from pacesetting Brean Can. Trained by George Leonard III, Unbridled Monica returned $32.40. Presidents Woman was third, 11 lengths behind Brean Can. The time for the 1 1/16-mile Richmond was 1:47.80.
