Sky and Sea, with Alex Canchari aboard, wins the Lady Slipper Stakes by three-quarters of a length Saturday.

Sky and Sea outdueled Rockin the Bleu’s to win the $60,000 Lady Slipper for Minnesota-bred filly-and-mare sprinters by three-quarters of a length Saturday at Canterbury Park.

Odds-on, Sky and Sea raced inside Rockin the Bleu’s through splits of 22.31 and 45.39 seconds and finally shook off her stubborn foe in the final furlong. Under Alex Canchari, she stopped the timer in 1:10.79 for six furlongs on a fast track, paying $3.20 to win. Thunder and Honey finished 5 1/2 lengths behind Rockin the Bleu’s for third.

Sky and Sea, a close third as the heavy favorite in this race last year, is trained by Bernell Rhone for owner-breeder Rake Farms. The 5-year-old daughter of Latent Heat and the Sky Mesa mare Peaceful Sky won for the sixth time in 15 starts and pushed her bankroll past $200,000.
