Skwhirl extends streak

The 4-year-old Skwhirl won his fourth stakes race last Saturday night in the Amadevil.

Skwhirl, owned and trained by Bob Rising, has scored all of his wins in Nebraska-bred stakes company. As a 2-year-old Skwhirl was third, beaten two lengths, in his career debut at Lincoln but bounced back a couple weeks later to win his maiden in the State Fair Futurity. He ended his campaign that year with a neck victory in the Columbus Futurity.

Last year Skwhirl's lone victory from eight starts came in the State Fair Breeders' Special at Lincoln, while this year's win came in his 11th start. Skwhirl has compiled a mark of 4-3-3 from 23 starts and has earned over $60,000. He is a son of King of Scat out of the Island Whirl mare Pat's Whirl.

He was followed to the winner's circle the following afternoon by his half-sister the 2-year-old Deputy's Whirl, who won the first race for Rising. Deputy's Whirl became the fourth winner from as many foals to race for her dam. Pat's Whirl raced five years with a record of 12-11-7 from 44 starts.
