Sixteen Thoroughbreds offered in Montana auction

The catalog for the inaugural Big Sky select breeders futurity sale is available online, featuring 16 Thoroughbred juveniles and 14 Quarter Horse juveniles.

The auction will take place Saturday at the Montana Expo Park in Great Falls beginning at 1 p.m. Mountain. Horses will be available to view that morning at 10.

Graduates of the Big Sky sale will be eligible to run in their respective breed’s division of the Big Sky Select Breeders Futurity in July at the Great Falls Turf Club’s State Fair Race Meet. Each race will have an estimated $20,000 purse, with trials taking place on July 15 and the finals being held July 29. The Thoroughbred futurity and trials will be contested at 5 1/4 furlongs, while the Quarter Horse races will be 300 yards.

If an offspring of a donated stallion to the Big Sky Select Breeders stallion season auction wins one of the futurity races, the stallion owner will be awarded a $1,000 bonus. The stallion season auction will be held Friday at the Holiday Inn in Great Falls beginning at 7:30 p.m., and proceeds will go toward futurity purses.

Thoroughbreds in the catalog were bred in Arizona, Minnesota, Montana, Oregon, South Dakota, Washington, and Alberta. The Quarter Horses were born in Idaho, Montana, South Dakota, Texas, and Wyoming.
