Six juveniles breeze a furlong in 9 4/5 seconds at Barretts

A sextet of juveniles tied for the fastest furlong Monday at the Barretts March sale of select 2-year-olds in training, covering the distance in 9 4/5 seconds over the main track at Del Mar.

That group became the first 2-year-olds to clock times faster than 10 seconds during a Barretts under-tack show since the auction company moved its operations to Del Mar in the middle of last year’s juvenile calendar. The February 2015 select sale was the final Barretts auction held at Fairplex Park in Pomona, Calif., and six horses tied at 10 seconds during last May’s sale of 2-year-olds in training, the first at Del Mar.

Following are the six horses to tie for the fastest time at an eighth of a mile Monday.

- Hip 12, a colt from the first crop of The Factor out of the winning Songandaprayer mare Broadway Lullaby. Consigned by Wavertree Stables as agent, he is from the family of Grade 2 winner and ill-fated Kentucky Derby runner-up Eight Belles and Grade 3 winners Belong to Me and Sky Captain.

- Hip 33, a filly from the first crop of Dialed In, out of the winning Menifee mare Fall Fantasy, who has had five winners. Her page includes Grade 1 winner Patches and Grade 2 winners Red Attack, La Spia, and Headache. Bruno De Berdt's Excel Bloodstock consigns the filly as agent.

- Hip 43, a California-bred Good Journey colt out of the winning Matty G. mare Hay Whatsamaddau, whose three winners include stakes-placed Korban. The page features Grade 2 winner Highland Park and Grade 3 winners Old Goat and Lou Brissie. Havens Bloodstock Agency consigns as agent.

- Hip 56, an Exchange Rate colt out of the winning Saarland mare Lily Luna, who is the dam of one winner. He is from the family of Canadian champion Silken Cat, herself the dam of champion sprinter and leading sire Speightstown, as well as Grade 1 winner Mani Bhavan, Grade 2 winner Hear the Ghost, Grade 3 winner Pink Champagne, and Grade 1-placed stakes winner Closing Bell. Excel Bloodstock also consigns this colt as agent.

- Hip 71, a City Zip colt out of the Grade 3-placed Horse Chestnut mare My Rachel, whose two foals to race are both stakes-placed winners – Rachel's Ready and Firehouse Red. The extended family includes Grade 1 winner Jack Milton and Grade 3 winner Peace Preserver. John Brocklebank consigns as agent for Dickman Legacy Ranch.

- Hip 117, a Hat Trick filly and the first foal out of the winning Gone West mare Westside Singer. Consigned as agent by Havens Bloodstock Agency, the filly is from the family of Grade 3 winner Mellow Fellow, and graded-placed stakes winners Zawzooth and Lady Blockbuster.

The fastest time among the handful of juveniles to breeze two furlongs came from Hip 30, a Flatter colt who covered the distance in 20 4/5 seconds.

The colt is out of the unraced Mt. Livermore mare Endless Sea, whose five winners include Scandinavian champion Silver Ocean and Swedish stakes winner Over the Ocean. Grade 2 winner Desert Waves can be found further down the page of the colt, who is consigned by Eddie Woods as agent.

The Barretts March sale will take place Wednesday at Del Mar, beginning at 2 p.m. Pacific.
