Six Calder stakes purses doubled

Six stakes at Calder originally slated as overnight races in 2009 have been elevated to full stakes status on this year's schedule. All six races are for 2-year-olds and have had their purse values increased from $50,000 to $100,000 apiece with the addition of funding from the Florida Thoroughbred Breeders' and Owners' Association for winning Florida-breds.

The six stakes are the Frank Gomez and its filly counterpart, the J J'sdream on July 11, and the Seacliff, Lindsay Frolic, Turf Dash and Catcharisingstar on Aug. 29. The Frank Gomez and J J'sdream will be run as part of the rich Summit of Speed card, while the remaining four stakes are schedule for Juvenile Showcase Day, which also features the middle legs of the Florida Stallion Stakes.

The 2009 Calder meet opens Friday.
