SirePowered Results: Twirling Candy


Twirling Candy propelled himself atop the current freshman sire standings with two maiden special weight winners, Uptown Twirl and Twirling Cinnamon, last week, according to Daily Racing Form’s SirePowered Results.

Uptown Twirl scored in a maiden special weight race on June 18 at Santa Anita Park, earning a Beyer Speed Figure of 73, according to SirePowered Results. Bred by Steven and Brandi Nicholson, Uptown Twirl now races for Hronis Racing. She is out of the Cat Thief mare Sambuca Classica, dam of multiple stakes winner Anytime Magic.

Twirling Cinnamon earned a Beyer of 67 for winning a maiden special weight race on June 19 at Churchill Downs. The colt, bred by Woods Edge Farm and owned by Steve Landers Racing, is out of the stakes-winning Indian Charlie mare Cinnamon Charlie.

Twirling Candy’s first winner, Queen of Silence, came in a May 25 maiden special weight race at Gulfstream Park. The filly, bred by Calumet Farm and owned by Alexandra Racing Stable, is out of the A.P. Indy mare Silent Moccasins.

Twirling Candy won seven of his 11 career starts, with his biggest score coming in the Grade 1 Malibu Stakes. He also won the Del Mar Derby, Strub Stakes, and Californian Stakes, all Grade 2 events; and finished second in the Pacific Classic and third in the Hollywood Gold Cup. He entered stud at Lane’s End in Versailles, Ky., in 2012.
