SirePowered Results: Distorted Humor

Barbara D. Livingston
House Rules scored her second consecutive stakes victory in the Rampart.

Distorted Humor, a perennial leader among the sire ranks, is already off to a stellar start in 2015. According to Daily Racing Form’s SirePowered Results, runners by the WinStar Farm stallion have already won 19 races in North America since the start of the season. That number got a big boost the weekend of Feb. 21-22 with five victories, led by repeat winners House Rules and Khozan.

House Rules scored her second stakes victory of the season in the Grade 3 Rampart Stakes on Saturday at Gulfstream Park. The filly, who races for Joseph Shields Jr., posted a Beyer Speed Figure of 96, improving on the 91 she earned winning the Bal Harbour Stakes last month at Gulfstream. House Rules, bred in partnership by WinStar and Haras El Catorce, is out of the Mutakddim mare Teamgeist, a multiple group stakes winner in Argentina.

Khozan romped by 12 3/4 lengths in an optional-claiming event Sunday at Gulfstream, remaining unbeaten in two career starts. The colt is now likely to head to the Florida Derby or Wood Memorial to attempt to earn his way into the Kentucky Derby field. Out of the multiple graded stakes-winning A.P. Indy mare Delta Princess, Khozan is a half-brother to champion Royal Delta, Grade 1 winner Crown Queen, Grade 1-placed Carnival Court, and Grade 2-placed Empire Way. The colt was bred in Kentucky by Adena Springs, and was a $1 million purchase by Al Shaqab Racing as a juvenile last year.

Distorted Humor’s other winners over the weekend were Distorted Type, who also became a repeat winner in 2015 with an optional-claiming score on Saturday; Against the Win, who won a maiden special weight on Sunday; and Dramedy, who won an optional claimer Sunday. All three races were at Tampa Bay Downs.

Distorted Humor, a son of Forty Niner, won four graded stakes during his own racing career, taking the Grade 2 Churchill Downs Handicap and Commonwealth Breeders’ Cup Handicap, and the Grade 3 Ack Ack Handicap and Salvator Mile. He entered stud at WinStar Farm in 1999 and has perennially been a leading sire, ranking atop the list nationally in 2011. His top runners include Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes winner and champion Funny Cide, and Belmont Stakes and Breeders’ Cup Classic winner Drosselmeyer.
