Sircat Sally handles open company in China Doll

ARCADIA, Calif. - Sircat Sally won her third consecutive stakes, and first against open company, in Saturday’s $94,515 China Doll Stakes for 3-year-old fillies on turf at Santa Anita.

Ridden by Mike Smith, Sircat Sally ($4.40) ran a mile in 1:34.40, benefiting from a perfect trip.

Smith had Sircat Sally in second for the first half-mile, tracking Miss Sunset, who set a quick pace of 22.29 seconds for the opening quarter-mile and 46.02 for a half-mile. Sircat Sally took the lead on the turn and won by 1 1/4 lengths over 4-1 Beau Recall.

Miss Sugars, an 8-1 shot, finished third in the field of 12, but was vanned off on the backstretch after being pulled up.

Sircat Sally races for owner and breeder Joe Turner. By Surf Cat, Sircat Sally beat California-bred maidens at Del Mar in November before winning two stakes for statebred fillies – the Soviet Problem Stakes on dirt at Los Alamitos in December and the California Cup Oaks on turf here on Jan. 28. She has earned $258,860.
